Are we a member of a UK Chartered Accountancy body?

A.

The short answer is yes, absolutely. Our principal accountant, Jonathon Gray qualified with the Institute of Chartered Management Accountants (CIMA) here in the UK in 2002. He holds a current Member in Practice from the Institute and as such our firm is regulated by CIMA.
CIMA’s code of ethics can be found here. As with all accountancy practices, our staff hold a range of professional qualifications. Please refer to the ‘Who we are’ section on our homepage to see detailed profiles of our team members.

Is my data kept private?

A.

We comply with the Data Protection Act we are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office under registration reference: ZA061826.

We do not disclose your information to third parties without proper and specific authority, unless there is a legal or professional right or duty to disclose, nor use the information for the personal advantage of the professional accountant or third parties.

What sized businesses is licensed to JLSN act for?

A.

We specialise in small owner managed businesses. However we are licensed to act for companies up to the following thresholds:

  • An annual turnover of not more than GBP 6.5 million
  • A balance sheet total of not more than GBP 3.26 million
  • That the company has 50 employees or less

What information do I need to provide when I sign up?

A.

In order to comply with Anti Money Laundering regulations, we are required to obtain the following proof of identity, current address and business details from you:

  • A utility bill dated within the last three months
  • Passport or driving licence of all named directors/partners/ principles.
  • Certificate of Incorporation (if a Ltd company)

We also have a standard ‘Terms of Engagement’ which sets out our obligations to you and your obligations to us.

How long am I committed for?

A.

You or we may terminate our engagement by giving one months written notice. All documents and information provided by you will be returned to you within 10 working days of receipt of the notice provided that all outstanding fees have been paid.

What are the payment terms?

A.

Fixed fee packages are payable one month in advance. We recommend setting up a standing order to streamline the cash flow process.

How do I change from my existing accountant?

A.

We can take care of all this for you. We simply contact your existing accountant and advise them of your wish to transfer to us. They will of course need to confirm this with you. Once this is done, they will then send us all your relevant client data and files and we take over from there. It’s as easy as that.

Do you provide bookkeeping services?

A.

Bookkeeping – i.e. entering and processing the day-to-day transactions of the business are not included in our standard package prices. Our added value is in analysis and advisory work.

We oversee the process, answering any queries you may have, posting accounting journals, making corrections etc. – the frequency and level of this service depends on the package you select. If you do require a full bookkeeping service, please contact us for a quote.

We are happy with our existing bookkeeping system – do we have to change to Xero?

A.

Of course not. We can work with whatever bookkeeping system you have, ranging from Sage to your own excel spreadsheets and everything in-between. You can still select the pricing package that suits you – it just means we need to exchange files and data the traditional way – by post, email or even delivered in a shoebox!

If you did want to take advantage of online collaboration we would encourage you to take up the Xero bookkeeping software with certain packages, but this decision is entirely yours.

I haven’t used Xero before – how do I get set up on it?

A.

We are here to help you, so we will along with Xero will guide and assist you through this process. Xero have comprehensive online training webinars, telephone and email support in place to help you build your knowledge.

None of the fixed price packages quite fit my needs – can you provide a bespoke quote?

A.

Yes – absolutely. We can tweak a package price to fit your needs or provide a bespoke quote for whatever accountancy services you require.
